It’s true — New Farm is bustling with swanky boutique restaurants in the inner city suburb. But right around the corner in the Gasworks is Peng You — a vibrant, trendy, authentic Chinese restaurant that is not to be missed.
Other New Farm Chinese restaurants can’t compare with our authenticity, and merging of old China with the present day. We are inviting and friendly, ready for your catch up meal with a girlfriend, drinks after work, or family get together.
Our restaurant features a menu of staple Asian dishes all lovingly prepared with a modern twist using only the freshest local ingredients. With every bite you can tell we truly care about capturing those authentic tastes of China, Japan, Taiwan, Singapore and Malaysia while ensuring they appeal to the modern diner. On offer are such original Asian dishes like tender jerky-textured jellyfish with succulent poached chicken salad and crunchy Taiwanese street–style fried chicken, which will ensure your taste-buds feel as if they’re taking a trip through downtown Hong Kong.
Our drinks list boasts Asian style cocktails such as the Lemongrass Mojito and Sichuan Mary. Or, treat yourself to a Sauvignon Blanc or Shiraz on tap! On top of that, we have our own brand of beer and cider that we’d love you to try, especially as they are both brewed locally in Queensland.
Upon entering you will be greeted by dark wood and tiles complementing brick wallpaper and distressed Chinese poster art. High ornate wooden ceilings create a sense of space and allow for the dangling of clusters of Chinese lanterns imbuing the ground floor with a warm glow. The bi-level design, eclectic mix of décor and seating options including yellow, funky lounge chairs, counter-style tables and bar stools all come together resulting in a visual spectacle. The vibrant interior, original menu and view out to the spacious plaza, home of the heritage-listed gasometer, makes this a Chinese restaurant that New Farm cannot compete with.
